I recently had the pleasure of reading Leading Continuous Change by Bill Pasmore, and I can confidently say it’s a book I’d recommend to anyone navigating change in their organisation. Pasmore does an excellent job of breaking down the complexities of leading change, not as a one-time event, but as an ongoing process that requires strategy, adaptability, and strong leadership.
One of the key takeaways I found is that change isn’t just about having the right plan; it’s about understanding the people involved, anticipating resistance, and fostering a culture that embraces continuous improvement.
In the Australian apprenticeship sector, this couldn’t be more relevant.
With the industry facing ongoing workforce shortages, evolving technology, and shifting government policies, Group Training Organisations (GTOs), RTOs, and employers must be agile in how they attract, train, and support apprentices. The ability to drive and sustain change, while keeping people engaged and focused on long-term outcomes is what separates successful organisations from those that struggle to adapt.
This book reinforces the importance of balancing structure with flexibility, listening to stakeholders at every level, and being proactive rather than reactive. In our work at Apprenticeships Are Us, we see firsthand how apprentices, employers, and training organistions all play a role in shaping the future of the industry. Effective leadership in this space means being able to guide people through change in a way that builds trust, capability, and resilience.
If you’re involved in workforce development, training, or leadership in any capacity, Leading Continuous Change is well worth the read. It provides practical insights that apply not just to large-scale transformation but also to the everyday challenges of keeping teams aligned and motivated in an ever-changing environment.
